H1 @ Popup as part of Vivid Fringe Festival

H1 @ Popup

A group exhibition that specifically concentrates on portraying negative concepts and dark emotive imagery. The artworks that will be displayed will be of a variety of mediums by artists coming from different alternative subcultures from across Sydney and will be reflected as such. The majority of these young artists will have been involved with various movements in Sydney for the past decade, this will show some evidence in their own works and as a result all will find common ground with the fact that all come from different interests that they are inherently passionate about. The exhibition itself will be held at creative space hub which has just recently been established in Parramatta. It will run from the 28th of May until the 11th of June, Tuesday to Saturday, from 11am to 5pm.

Another main theme with the exhibition as a whole involves the idea of utilising unused spaces within the local community for creative purposes.

Date/s: Saturday 28th May to Saturday 11th June

Venue: Popup Parramatta Level 2, 237 Church Street, Parramatta

(corner of Church and George Street next to the Westpac building)

Open Day Event

Today we hosted over 35 people for the Open Day to showcase the three spaces which form the inital focus of Pop Up Parramatta. Cate Gilpin (outgoing Creative Broker), Merryn Spencer (new Creative Broker) and Rebecca Grasso (Manager of City Culture) hosted guest partners, artists and locals through the three spaces with much enthusiastic discussion. There is great potential and opportunity for the artists to be inspired and enthused by the facilities available to them. The initiative’s focus on the activation of vacant commercial and retail space in the city centre of Parramatta, connection and engagement with, and support of, the Parramatta creative community and the opportunity to create a whole new experience - something that gives people a reason to visit. Focusing on creative development and production, the project's open day was a strong opportunity to focus on linkages between community. "Pop Up Parramatta forms part of Parramatta Council's vision for arts and culture, that has a firm focus on creative development and production," commented Rebecca Grasso. "It's been Cate Gilpin who has brought it all to life. She has an amazing balance of creativity and practicality, and she makes stuff happen. Respecting Tia's intentions and witha  clear focus on the strategic objectives, she has Popped Up something that she should be very proud of."
Thanks to Arts NSW and Parramatta Council for their support of this project.
Expressions of interest are open to artists from any location, with the intention to work on a creative project in the area for a period of one month or more. Thankyou to all local artists, partners and interested persons who attended the launch today. Please get in touch on 02 9806 5743 should you require an EOI form.
